The Alaska Pipeline begins in the north at Prudhoe Bay and runs 800.302 miles to Valdez in the south. The pipeline was completed in 1977 and took over 3 years to build. It takes 12 days for oil to travel the length of the pipeline and there is about 9 million barrels in the pipeline at any given time. It is 4 feet in diameter.
