BLUEBERRY PICKING

DSCN1429August is blueberry season in the Denali area of Alaska.  Blueberry bushes are plentiful here, growing on all the hillsides, on the tundra and along the roadsides.  The blueberry bush grows low to the ground and the berries are smaller than those sold commercially, but well worth the effort of picking them.  The residents pick gallons of blueberries and store them over the winter, using them for a variety of breakfast and snack food, such as pancakes, pies, jams and cobblers.  The roadsides are dotted with people this time of year picking these tasty treats.

At Cantwell RV park, we offer weekly blueberry picking excursions in August so that our visitors have an opportunity to experience a real Alaskan activity and a natural Alaskan treat.  This year the crop is plentiful and the bushes are loaded with clumps of blueberries.DSCN1426DSCN1425DSCN1420DSCN1418
